Miss Catharina van den Bosch (Sr. Karin), a nurse manager, came to Shire in 2000 to work at the local hospital. She started simultaneously to help abandoned / orphaned children. She would take them to another agency in Adwa, as there was nowhere closer providing assistance for orphans and vulnerable children.

Sr. Karin (as she is known locally) was requested to consider a children’s village locally. In this manner children could stay near to their birthplace and understand their background and country.

The local government gave Sr. Karin a beautiful tract of land in 2005 measuring 15 hectares that has been developed into village for orphans and vulnerable children; this has been established into a community with space for children. This family-like community unit is called Grace Village.

Abraham’s Oasis trains and employs disadvantaged young women to work as housemothers, babysitters and general domestic workers.
